SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Ladies may have been swept in the regular season series, but that does not mean the Maroon and White have not given the previously-ranked Tigers all they could handle.

The Ladies rallied from a halftime deficit to take the lead, but 12 unanswered by the home team in the third quarter proved to be the difference as Centenary (8-16, 3-11 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) wrapped up conference action with an 82-70 loss to Trinity (20-4, 11-2 SCAC) Saturday night, February 13.

With the Ladies trailing 35-30 at half, a three by freshman Savanah Doty and a layup by senior Briana Edwards out of the lockeroom tied the game. Trinity nudged ahead by two, but sophomore Samantha Lyons hit a three to give Centenary back the lead. After a bucket by the Tigers wrestled the lead away, freshman Jasmine Morris made a layup and Edwards and Doty both split from the line.

Four players reached double figures in scoring for the Ladies, including 16 points and eight rebounds by Lyons. Morris and Doty chipped in 15 while Edwards added 10 points, 12 boards and four blocks.

The Ladies trailed 5-3 early before scoring nine unanswered to open up a seven-point advantage. Morris tied the game with a pair from the line. Edwards gave the visitors its first lead of the game before Doty hit a triple. A layup by Lyons pushed the lead to 12-5.

Both teams shot better than 50 percent from the field, but Trinity forced 32 Ladies’ miscues and outscored Centenary 41-9 in points off turnovers.

Tied at 46 in the third quarter, Trinity used a 12-0 run to take the lead for good. Mollie Hughes and Monica Hulguin added back-to-back fastbreak points. Caitlin Barrett made a layup and split from the line to open up a 7-point lead, before Elizabeth Balido made a three and Bryony Harris made a layup.

Centenary cut the deficit to eight early in the fourth, but Barrett nailed a triple to put Trinity up double-digits for good in the contest.

Hughes led Trinity with 18 points off the bench, while Holguin, Balido and Barrett all chipped in 15.

The Ladies close out the regular season just how they started the 2015-16 campaign, by playing Dallas Christian. Tip is set for 1 p.m. in the Gold Dome Saturday, February 13.
