Softball Sweeps SCAC Pitching, Player of the Week Honors

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Baseball accomplished the award sweep in the first week of the regular season, why not Ladies softball joining in on the fun?

Announced Monday, February 15, by the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, Centenary freshmen Nichole Aldridge and Wendy Gillet have been named Conference Pitcher and Player of the Week.

Centenary is off to its best start as an NCAA Division III program, sweeping Southwestern Assemblies of God and splitting with LeTourneau and Millsaps.

Aldridge finished the week 3-1 in the circle, including two complete game wins against LeTourneau and Milsaps. She allowed 14 hits and six runs (four earned) with 14 strikeouts in 19.2 inning pitched for the week. Her lone loss came in relief when Milsaps scored a player from second base, placed there before the inning due to international tiebreaking rules.

Aldridge leads the SCAC in wins and strikeouts.

Gillet leads the team with a .450 batting average, including a hit in all six Centenary games played to begin her collegiate career. She also has a double in every game but one in 2016, leading the conference with five two-baggers. She also leads the team and is second in the SCAC with six RBI’s.

She also has two stolen bases to her credit in two attempts on the year, including swiping home to tie the game in Centenary’s first win of the season against LeTourneau.

Centenary Kicks off the home portion of its schedule Sunday, February 21, against Rust. The doubleheader is set to begin at noon.
