SHREVEPORT, La. - Head gymnastics coach Jackie Fain announced the addition of a pair of gymnasts on Wednesday, March 2. The Centenary athletic family welcomes Evelyn Harris and Cami Bea Austin to the Ladies squad for the 2016-2017 season.

“I am so excited to have both Evelyn and Cami Bea joining our team,” said Fain. “They are both very talented and dedicated gymnasts, who will come to us ready to make an immediate impact on several events next year. Not only are they accomplished athletes, but they are also very good students.”

Here is a closer look at the Ladies gymnastics newcomers:

Cami Bea Austin

Memphis, Tenn. / Harding Academy

Austin joins Centenary after competing for River City Gymnastics and head coaches Erica and Keno Anderson and Jessica Prince. Honors include:

  • 2012 Region 8, Level 9 and 10 Bars Champion, second in the all-around and an Eastern Championships qualifier
  • 2013 Tennessee Optional State Meet Champion for Level 9
  • 2013 Region 8, Level 9 and 10 Championships: 2nd vault, 7th all-around, and an Eastern Championships Alternate
  • 2014 and 2015 Tennessee Optional State Meet 4th all-around for Level 10

So far this year, Austin finished first in the all-around at the Crimson Classic. She also won on vault and floor, while finishing third in the all-around, at the Atlanta Paws for Cause Invitational.

At Centenary, Austin intends to major in pre-med.

Coach Fain on Austin: Cami Bea is a pure powerhouse!  She is full of raw talent, and she is going to blossom as a collegiate athlete. I love getting athletes like Cami Bea; she is hungry, dedicated and ready to move to the next level with her gymnastics.  Next fall should be fun with her around; I am excited to see how much she is going to learn.  Watch for Cami Bea to become one of the best gymnasts on our team over the next couple of years!  She is a fun loving, easy-going personality, and she fits right in with the existing Ladies. She can certainly be a strong candidate for several of our line-ups next year. The crowd and the judges are going to love her as much as we do!

Evelyn Harris

Roswell, Ga. / Rivers Academy

Harris joins the Ladies after competing for Gymnastics Academy of Atlanta and head coaches Jacobo Giron and Elena Pankratova. Honors include:

  • In Level 9, qualified for Westerns
  • As a first year Level 10, finished 13th in the all-around at NIT.

Accomplishments so far this season include finishing first in the all-around at the Centennial Classic and fourth in the all-around at the Excalibur Cup.

At Centenary, Harris intends to major in both English and Art.

Coach Fain on Harris: Evelyn comes to us as an accomplished all-around prospect. She has the skills necessary to step in and help us on all four events upon her arrival on campus.  She has great basics and beautiful form, which will serve her well in the collegiate arena.  She has the skill level needed to compete deep in our line-ups on most of the events, and will certainly be a great contributor to our success over the next few years.  Evelyn is a great match for our team culture; the Ladies on the team enjoyed her very much, and the coaching staff was impressed with her as well.  We cannot wait to see Evelyn competing in a Centenary leotard next season!
