GEORGETOWN, Texas – Sophomore Michelle Tasin ran her hitting streak to 16, but the Centenary softball team (8-8, 2-4 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) fell 9-1 in game one in five innings and lost a 4-3 heartbreaker to Southwestern (9-9, 2-4 SCAC) in game two Saturday afternoon, March 12.

Down 3-0 in game two with two outs in the top of the third, freshman Kylie Bradley walked and senior Emily Sexton added an infield single. Junior Lizzie Moran cleared the bases with double to cut the deficit to one.

The Ladies tied it up in the sixth when Tasin doubled, was sacrificed to third and scored on sophomore Haley Miller’s single.

Sexton finished the day 4-for-6 with two runs score, while Tasin went 2-for-6 with a run scored and an RBI.

Tying the game in the top of the sixth, the Pirates scored what proved to be the winning run in the bottom of the sixth on a costly error. A hit batter, sacrifice, and two singles loaded the bases with one out.  Celeste Silvas grounded to shortstop, but an errant throw home by sophomore Anna Dunn allowed Berkeley Bacon to score off of freshman Nichole Aldridge (6-4).

Aldridge allowed nine hits and four runs, three earned, in the complete game loss. Marissa Irvin paced Southwestern from the plate, going 2-for-4 with a run scored. Stacy Rosengren added a two-RBI double while Silva added an RBI single.

Isabella Robb (3-4) picked up the complete-game win, allowing seven hits and three runs in seven innings of work.

In game one, Tasin extended her hitting streak with an RBI single in the top of the fifth. Southwestern got the run back Amelia Fuchs homered and Karly Pustka singled in the game-ending run.

Sexton went 2-for-2 with a run scored for Centenary, while Fuchs went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI.

Miller (1-1) picked up the loss, allowing 12 hits and nine runs (five earned) in 4.1 innings of work for the Ladies.  Chandler Smith (6-3) allowed six hits and an unearned run.

Centenary wraps up play with Southwestern in a double header beginning tomorrow at noon.
