Monday, March 21, 2016

SHREVEPORT, La. – So far in 2016, there have been eight different selections for Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week. Thanks to senior Dakota Brown, #16 Centenary (17-3, 6-0 SCAC) holds half of those winners by three different pitchers.

Announced Monday, March 21 by the SCAC offices, Brown became the third-consecutive Gent to be named conference Pitcher of the Week. Centenary picked up its second-consecutive sweep to begin conference play, beating Schreiner 12-10 in 11 innings and 16-3 Saturday. The Gents rallied for a 16-7 victory in the series finale Sunday.

Brown picked up a pair of wins in relief for the Maroon and White in consecutive days. In the resumption of the suspended game on Saturday, he threw the final 2.1 innings as Centenary won in extras.  In the series finale, he allowed just one run in 5.2 innings of work as Centenary turned a 6-5 deficit in to a 16-7 lead.

Not only the mound, but Brown was impressive from the plate. He managed a 9-for-14 mark with seven RBI’s and four runs scored. After being hit by a pitch in the 11th inning in game one Saturday, he scored what proved to be the game-winning run on junior Scott Dwyer’s home run.

Brown had three hits in every game for the weekend, and is now fourth in the SCAC with a .414 batting average. Leading the conference with nine hit-by-pitches, he was beamed two times against Schreiner and sits eighth in the country in that category.

He currently holds a six-game hitting streak and has reached safely in all 16 games of 2016 in which he has a plate appearance.

Centenary returns to action Friday night, March 25, for a three-game set against #2 Trinity. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
