SHREVEPORT, La. – The Ladies used a two-out rally in the fifth inning to claim a 5-1 win in game one, but Centenary (16-18, 5-13 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) fell 6-4 in extra innings in game two against Schreiner (4-22, 2-12 SCAC) on senior day Saturday afternoon, April 2.

Tied at one heading to the fifth, the Ladies scored four runs after two outs and no one on base. Sophomore Michelle Tasin hit her first home run of the season to score what proved to be the winning run. However, the Maroon and White added three insurance runs as sophomore Anna Dunn hit an infield single and freshman Wendy Gillet added a base knock. Freshman Margeaux Smith grounded the ball to shortstop, however, the throw was wild to allow Dunn to score.

Sophomore Raney Mixon and junior Lizzie Moran both drove in runs with RBI singles to cap the 5-1 victory.

Freshman Nichole Aldridge (8-11) picked up the win in the circle, throwing a complete game and allowing six hits and an unearned run with four strikeouts.

Schreiner’s lone run came in the top of the fourth. Samantha Cordon singled and advanced to third on a throwing error. Despite two Mountaineers in scoring position with no outs, a lone run crossed the plate on a squeeze play by Kaycee Govett.

Jessica Vrana (2-12) took the complete-game loss, allowing 12 hits and five runs (two earned).

However, the Mountaineers claimed a back-and-forth affair in eight innings in game two. After Schreiner scored a pair of runs in the third, Centenary regained the lead with one in the fifth and a pair in the sixth. In the fifth, freshman starting pitcher Lauren Beadle walked and advanced to second on a groundout. However, Schreiner tried to throw behind the runner. The throw went wild to push Beadle to third. Sophomore Haley Miller cut the deficit in half with a sacrifice fly.

In the sixth, Tasin walked and a pinch runner advanced to second on a wild pitch. Dunn tied the game on a double and two groundouts to give Centenary the lead. Schreiner reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the seventh with a pair of runs, but a dropped fly ball allowed senior Emily Sexton to tie the game at four in the bottom of the seventh.

Schreiner scored a pair in the top of the eighth for the 6-4 win. Hernandez singled and advanced to scoring position on a bunt. Nichole Schoenherr singled to third to put two on base, and a double steal put both runners in scoring position. A groundout and a double by Cordon added an insurance run and the final 6-4 win.

Miller (4-4) took the loss in four innings of work coming out of the bullpen, allowing four runs on six hits. Loreena Espinoza (2-9) took the win, allowing four runs (two earned) in the complete-game win for Schreiner.

The Ladies play their final home doubleheader Sunday, April 2, at noon.
