SEGUIN, Texas – The Gents reduced a three-run deficit to 4-3 in the sixth, but the Bulldogs answered with three in the bottom of the inning and five more in the eighth as #14 Centenary (24-9, 9-6 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) fell to #24 Texas Lutheran (23-11, 13-2 SCAC) Saturday afternoon, April 16.

Centenary struck first in the second when sophomore Ian Graham singled, stole second, and scored on a two-out hit by freshman Cameron Guin. The Bulldogs answered with their own two-out RBI single in the bottom of the inning.

Texas Lutheran’s Justin Law added a two-run home run in the third and a single tally in the fourth, but the Gents cut the deficit to one with a pair in the top of the sixth. With one out, sophomore Chris Zapata singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Junior Aaron Quintanilla walked to put two on, and both runners advanced a base on a wild pitch. Sophomore Cole Lavergne drove both runners in with a single to right field.

Sophomore Kaleb Kirk (8-4) toed the rubber for the Gents and left after surrendering the home run. He allowed seven hits and three runs in three innings of work.

Texas Lutheran scored three runs in the sixth to push the lead to four. Lincoln Baylor and Austin Frick singled to begin the inning and advanced on a sacrifice. Rayce Gatlin singled in a run and a throwing error by freshman pitcher Matthew Devillier allowed the second run of the frame to score to push the deficit back to three. An error at first, the second Gents miscue of the inning, pushed the Texas Lutheran lead to 7-3.

A Gatlin RBI single and an error allowed two to score in the eighth. Law added an RBI single, Riley Schaefer drove in a run with a double, and Keaton Bohrmann added a sacrifice fly to end the scoring in the game for the Bulldogs.

Cody Rimko (4-3) recorded the win for Texas Lutheran, allowing three runs on six hits in 5.1 innings of work.

Centenary returns to action Tuesday, April 19, with a trip to #20 UT Tyler. This will be the third meeting between the Patriots and Gents, with the Maroon and White winning the first two games.
