Gillet Garners Final SCAC Softball Hitter of the Week Nod

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Freshman Wendy Gillet helped the Ladies record a 3-1 series win against Austin College and was named the final Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Softball Hitter of the Week for the 2016 season.

The Ladies softball team won their first SCAC series of the year against the ‘Roos to finish the season .500 (20-20) – Centenary’s best season in seven years. The Maroon and White so far have 13 more wins this year than last, which is the third-best improvement of any NCAA Division III softball team in the nation.

Gillet garnered her second Hitter of the Week honor of the year by going 8-for-15 (.533 average). She added nine RBI’s, four runs scored, two home runs and a double. In the first game of the series, in which the Ladies clinched an SCAC Tournament bid for the first time in three seasons with a 5-1 win, Gillet hit a two-run home run in the first as Centenary never trailed. She added a solo shot in game three of the series, a 5-2 Ladies win, and went 4-for-4 with three RBI's and a double.

With the Ladies winning the regular season finale 11-3 in five innings, Gillet went 1-for-4 but added four RBI’s. She plated the first run of the game with a groundout, a two-RBI double in the second, and reached on an error that scored a run in the fifth.

Gillet finished the regular season leading all conference freshman in batting average (.425) hits (54), RBI’s (37), doubles (15) and home runs (four). She ranks third in average, second in hits, fifth in RBI’s, third in doubles and fourth in home runs overall in the SCAC.

The fifth seed in the SCAC Tournament, Centenary takes on fourth-seeded Southwestern in the first game of the tournament Friday, April 22, at noon.
