Friday, April 22, 2016

JAMIE WRIGHT OF CENTENARY COLLEGE, a member of the women's golf team, has been selected the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Character and Community Female Student Athlete of the Week for the week beginning April 18, 2016.

The SCAC honors the efforts of student-athletes who excel in the field of athletics and serve their campus and community.

On the course, Wright recently completed her collegiate career April 18-19 at the 2016 SCAC Championships. She finished 12th, firing a 264 (+20) and improving her second-round total by six shots from the first day.

Wright twice earned First Team All-Conference honors for the Ladies in her collegiate career, finishing second in 2014 and third in 2015 at the SCAC Championships.

“Jamie Wright completed her excellent college career with a 12th-place individual finish,” explained head coach Emlyn Aubrey. “Although she did not have the season she was hoping for, she completed a stellar collegiate career and will be missed. She is the best teammate a coach could have. I'll miss her, but I am excited to see where Jamie goes in life!"

A political science and history major, Wright has excelled in the classroom as well. For the 2014-15 season, she was named to the Women’s Golf Coaches Association Women’s Collegiate Golf All-American Scholar List. To qualify, recipients were required to have a 3.5 GPA or better.

However, Wright is deeply involved with both Centenary and the surrounding Shreveport community. From 2013-2015, she volunteered at Centenary’s Big Event. The Big Event is a student-led, large scale, day of service, which unites Centenary with its surrounding neighbors to build relationships, express gratitude, and enhance the community that has supported the college for more than 100 years. Wright also participated in the annual Centenary Martin Luther King Service Day.

As a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha at Centenary, the sorority participated in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure 2012-2015, the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides against Breast Cancer in 2015 and the Common Ground Halloween Bash in 2014 and 2015.

In the Shreveport community, she has volunteered at the Glen Retirement System, which is a not-for-profit, Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) located in South Shreveport.

Finally, Wright assisted with the First Tee Golf Program in her hometown of Alexandra, Louisiana, in 2013-14. She also completed her Centenary module in South Africa, volunteering at an AIDS orphanage.
