Volley Ladies release 2016 Slate; Welcome SCAC for Conference Tournament

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Centenary Ladies volleyball team and fourth-year head coach Caley Carter announced the schedule for the 2016 season on Tuesday, May 3. Highlights include the annual Halloween Tournament, Oct. 28-29, and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Volleyball Tournament coming to Shreveport, Nov. 4-5.

“We have a bit of a tougher schedule for 2016 than we had in the past couple of years,” explained coach Carter. “This group has worked extremely hard in the off-season. We are coming back stronger and more prepared for the tougher games, such as our conference opponents.  We are a very young group and will have a smaller roster with no seniors, so I expect this season to be one where we gain a lot of experience and continue to improve for the future.”

The Ladies kicks off home play Sept. 6 against Jarvis Christian, their only home match during the month. Centenary will make the return trip to take on the Bulldogs on Sept. 28 in Hawkins, Texas. In 2015, Centenary won both matches against Jarvis Christian in four sets.

After more than a month on the road, Centenary will end its schedule with numerous home matches. Texas College and Rust will visit the Gold Dome Oct. 18 for to join the Ladies for a tri-match. Centenary battles Texas College at 6 p.m., before finishing the night against Rust at 8 p.m.

The Maroon and White swept Rust in straight sets twice last season, including breaking the single-match record for team aces. The Ladies tallied 30 aces against the Bearcats in the Gold Dome Oct. 21, 2015.

A total of 11 matches will be contested in the Gold Dome Oct. 28-29 for the annual Centenary Halloween tournament. The Ladies will take on LeTourneau in a rematch from earlier during the season on Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. The Ladies travel to Longview, Texas, Sept. 21.

Centenary takes on Belhaven on Oct. 29 at noon.

Six teams from the SCAC will visit the Gold Dome for the annual Conference Tournament, Nov. 4-5. The third-sixth seeds battle in quarterfinal matches, while the top and second seeds receive byes. Saturday’s action consists of three matches to determine fifth place, third place and the SCAC Champion and automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

The season kicks off Sept. 2-3 at the Austin College Classic in Sherman, Texas. While the order of competition is to be announced, the Ladies will take on Sul Ross State, McMurry, UT Tyler and Mary-Hardin Baylor. The following weekend, Centenary will travel to Jackson, Mississippi, for the Belhaven Classic. Besides the host Blazers, the Ladies take on Tougaloo, Lyon, and Huntingdon.

Once again, the SCAC will have a pair of divisionals and crossovers for all of the conference matches in 2016. September 16-17 at Colorado College and Oct. 8-9 at Dallas sees the Ladies take on Colorado College, Dallas and Austin College for the divisionals. The Maroon and White take on the four central Texas schools (Schreiner, Texas Lutheran, Southwestern and Trinity) in the crossover twice: Sept. 24-25 in Sherman, Texas, and Oct. 22-23 in Kerrville, Texas.
