SHREVEPORT, La. – The Ladies gave the faithful quite a show in the lid-lifter the 2016 home soccer slate.

The Maroon and White erupted for four goals in the first half en route to matching its biggest win in seven seasons as Centenary (2-0) bested Louisiana College (0-1-1) 5-0 Saturday afternoon, Sept. 3.

Sophomore Kati-Jayde Cunningham turned in quite the contest in her first game at Mayo Field. She scored twice, putting 5-of-7 shots on target and adding an assist. In the 17th minute, she received a pass tight in the box on the left side. She dribbled to the center and put the ball in the net to open up the scoring. Just 1:40 later, sophomore Liz Knight passes into the 18-yard box, and Cunningham touched the ball in with the goalie out of position.

Centenary led 2-0 less than 20 minutes in to the game.

Despite the five scores, Louisiana College recorded the first shot on goal. Senior goalkeeper Erica Coker (2-0) finished with a pair of saves to move in to third place all by her lonesome in Ladies’ career stops. With her two shutouts to begin 2016, she also moves in to seventh in career shutouts. Coker has six solo and a shared shutout.

Junior Connor Harwood found the back of the net in the 32nd minute. The ball bounced around in the box until it found Harwood, who finished to put the Ladies up three. Freshman Taylor Morgan came off the bench for the final goal of the first half, finding the back of the net when the ball was deflected off of classmate Serena Gallegos’ knee.

Senior Marisa Hughes scored the lone second half goal. In the 50th minute, Cunningham passed in the box and Hughes turned past the goalie coming out for the touch score.

For the game, Centenary outshot Louisiana College 26-5, including 14-2 in shots on target. McKenna Raines (0-1-1) took the loss in goal for the Wildcats, allowing five goals but grabbing nine saves.

The Ladies are back in action Tuesday, Sept. 6, when they make the short trip west on I-20 to take on regional-rival LeTourneau. The contest is set for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
