SHREVEPORT, La. – The Gents took an early lead on the Majors, but the visitors took the momentum in the second half and scored early in the extra period as Centenary (3-2) fell to Millsaps (3-3) 2-1 in overtime Tuesday night, Sept. 13, at Mayo Field.

Millsaps took two shots on target in the first 5 minutes, but neither team generated much offense in the next 25 minutes. After a header save by senior goalie Rylan Whan for the Gents, senior Jeremy Klespis had some room left post. He passed across the goalie box, and found freshman Scott Halper far post in the 32nd minute. Halper put the ball in the net for his first collegiate goal to put Centenary up 1-0.

The Majors looked to tie it up shortly before half, but Alex Bourland’s header off a Millsaps corner was grabbed by Whan right before crossing the goalline as Centenary held the 1-0 advantage after a period. Whan (3-2) finished the game with eight saves on 10 shots faced.

After 90 minutes, both teams stood tied at one as the Gents faced its first overtime of the season.  Millsaps could not connect on its first 10 corners of regulation, but the first in overtime proved to be the game winner. Tore Schutt found Dimitri Staursky right in front of the goal for his first goal of the season and the game winner in the 94th minute.

Millsaps used an 11-4 edge in corner kicks in the game.

The Majors tied the game in the 60th minute to send the game in to overtime. Johnathan Huebbe improved to 3-3 in goal for Millsaps, grabbing six saves on seven shots faced.

Sophomore Nick Hammond and Halper, who came off the bench, both managed to put both shots on target in the game for the Gents.

Centenary steps back in to Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action Friday, Sept. 16, when it takes on Southwestern. Kick off in Georgetown, Texas, is set for 5 p.m.
