SHREVEPORT, La. – The Ladies quickly vanquished a scoreless tie in the second half and never looked back as Centenary (4-1) knocked off Millsaps (0-4-1) 4-1 Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 13, at Mayo Field.

“Tale of two halves,” explained head coach David Orr. “It was a good performance overall. We were frustrated at half because we did not score, but we made some simple halftime adjustments and got going. It was a good win.”

The Maroon and White placed 8-of-10 shots on target in the first half, but could not find the back of the net as the game stood scoreless at intermission. Sophomore Kati-Jayde Cunningham quickly changed that. In the 52nd minute, senior Hannah Jo Wright served a ball in from the right post to Cunningham. Cunningham chipped the ball over the goalie’s head and into the goal to put Centenary up 1-0.

Cunningham scored less than two minutes later when senior Marissa Hughes turned toward the goal left post and passed across the box. Cunningham turned and put the shot on target for her fifth goal of the season. She later added an assist as she now leads the conference in both goals and points (12).

Senior Mallory Ford, making her first collegiate start in goal, grabbed 3-of-4 shots faced for the win. Her counterpart for the Majors, Olivia Gattuso, recorded 12 saves against four goals.

Wright would score tally her own goal to go along with the assist earlier by scoring directly on a corner kick in the 62nd minute. Freshman Taylor Morgan scored the last goal for the Maroon and White in the game when Cunningham beat the defenders and passed across the box. Morgan scored for her second goal of the season.

Emily Gager scored the lone Millsaps goal in the 77th minute.

Centenary returns to Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action Friday, Sept. 16, in Georgetown, Texas. Kick off against Southwestern is set for 7 p.m.
