GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Ladies struck first in the early going, but the Pirates scored six unanswered as Centenary (4-2, 1-1 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) fell to Southwestern (3-2, 2-0 SCAC) 6-1 Friday night, Sept. 16.

Sophomore Kati-Jayde Cunningham scored her conference-leading sixth goal of the season in the 14th minute. Her first shot was saved, but the rebound went right to her and she found the back of the net in a wide open shot to put the Ladies up 1-0. Less than three minutes later, Southwestern’s Hayley Miesse scored on a header off a corner kick. She would add another score in the 34th minute and another second half goal to complete the hat trick.

Tied at one in the 35th minute, Miesse scored off another corner. Southwestern scored 30 seconds later and took a 3-1 lead in to the locker room.

Senior Ladies goalkeeper Mallory Ford grabbed a pair of saves on five shots faced in the first half to fall to 1-1 on the year. Classmate Kalie Hughes saved five shots and allowed three goals in the second half.

Southwestern’s Mary Cardone took the win in goal, allowing a score on four shots faced in the games first 78 minutes.

Cunningham led Centenary with both shots on target for the match.

Centenary returns to the pitch Sunday against Texas Lutheran. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
