COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Ladies dropped a pair of matches in straight sets in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon, Sept. 17. Centenary (2-10, 1-2 SCAC) fell to #4 Colorado College (11-0, 3-0 SCAC) in the first match of its day 25-8, 25-8, 25-13 before falling in the nightcap to Austin College (9-5, 2-1 SCAC) 25-16, 25-18, 25-13).

In the first match against the Tigers, sophomore Hailey Lawson led the team with eight kills while classmate Makenzie Shaw added 10 assists.

Down 11-3 in the third, Centenary mounted a rally to cut an 11-3 deficit to just three points. Sophomore Ashley Brown got a solo block and freshman Kristian Loving recorded an ace. Brown tallied a kill before  both teams sided out the next two serves. On serve, Brown saw Colorado College hit an attack error and a kill from Lawson cut the deficit to 12-9.

Colorado College scored the next five points and won the final set by 12. The Tigers hit .381 as a team as Marguerite Spaethlin went 5-for-7 on attack attempts (.714) with eight blocks.

In the second match in set one, Centenary battled back from an 8-2 deficit to take a 10-9 lead. Sophomore Desiree Frey put down a kill to put Shaw on serve. Lawson recorded her own kill and four straight hitting errors by Austin College tied the set. After each team sided out, a Lawson kill put the Ladies up. A kill by Madison Lee tied the set, and a run which included three Centenary hitting errors put the ‘Roos up 16-10.

Frey led Centenary with 10 kills while freshman Marissa Sandoval added 11 digs. Presleigh Watson paced Austin College with 11 kills.

Centenary returns to action Wednesday, Sept. 21, when it makes the trip down I-20 west to LeTourneau. First serve in Longview, Texas, is set for 7 p.m.
