SEGUIN, Texas – The Ladies struck first for the second game on the weekend, but the Bulldogs scored a pair of goals in each half as Centenary (4-3, 1-2 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) fell to Texas Lutheran (2-2-2, 1-1-1 SCAC) 4-1 Sunday afternoon, Sept. 18.

Senior Marissa Hughes opened the scoring in the 12th minute off a pass from freshman Serena Gallegos. From 20 yards out, Hughes found the back of the net by placing the ball just out of the reach of the out-stretched goalie. Bailey Nimtz for Texas Lutheran tied the game when Anakey Mora Alcazar gathered a loose ball and passed to Nimtz in the 23rd minute.

Katie Morton added a goal and an assist while Tara Armstrong scored off a penalty kick in the 59th minute for the Bulldogs. Claudia Trevino closed the scoring when Morton placed a through ball that Trevino hit the right corned 10 yards out in the 69th minute.

Senior Kalie Hughes (0-1) took the loss for Centenary in goal, allowing three goals on six shots faced. Classmate Mallory Ford grabbed a save on two shots faced in relief.

Stephanie Barrientos picked up the win in relief at goal for the Bulldogs, grabbing all four shots faced. Nichole Glazener allowed started at goal and allowed a score in the first 12:33.

Centenary returns to action Friday night, Sept. 23, against Schreiner at 7 p.m. for the Go4theGoal’s Lace up 4 Pediatric Cancer game. Centenary soccer will be raising awareness and asking for donations to help support kids who are being treated for cancer in the Shreveport area.
