SHREVEPORT, La. –The Ladies took it to the Pirates in the opening minutes Friday night, Oct. 7, but two goals off corner kicks jumpstarted the offense for the visitors as Centenary (5-6, 2-5 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) fell to Southwestern (7-4, 5-2 SCAC) 5-0 at Mayo Field in Shreveport, Louisiana.

The Ladies dictated the tempo early against the Pirates. Right out of the gate, senior Marissa Hughes received a cross but shot it high. In fact, Centenary took five shots before Southwestern even managed one. Freshman Olivia Jackson and sophomore Kati-Jayde Cunningham managed shots on target in the first 10 minutes.

However, the visitors used a 20-8 edge on shots the rest of the way. In the 11th minute, Sarah Bevins kicked a corner short for Southwestern. She received the ball back, and crossed to Megan McGrath, who went far post to score the opening goal of the game.

Bevins added her own goal just more than two minutes later when she took a corner kick from the right and went far post directly for the score.

McGrath closed the scoring in the game for the Pirates in the 57th minute.

Centenary senior goalie Erica Coker (4-4) grabbed 10 saves on 15 shots faced and is just five short of reaching 400 stops for her career. Mary Cardone (7-3) made six saves in the first 78:42 of the game.

Cunningham led Centenary with four shots, two of which were on goal.

The Ladies return to action Sunday, Oct. 9, when they welcome Texas Lutheran for a 2 p.m. SCAC showdown.
