Junior Ashley White Provides This Week's Gym Talk!
Monday, October 10, 2016

Hello fans! Thank you so much for tuning in to this week’s Gym Talk! I apologize for getting this to you so late. It was an arduous week as I had a test and three papers due!

It’s amazing how far I’ve come in the 3 years I’ve been on this team! I’ve learned being on a team is so much more than you can imagine. The relationships you build with your team is indescribable; in developing that bond, loyalty comes into play. Since freshmen year, I’ve always had full confidence in my teammates to help prepare me for season. I will cherish my team in my heart forever and I cannot wait to see what is in store for us this season. We’re on our way to make history again!!!

Our team had an exceptional month going to open gyms, hitting the track, the pool and getting into the FIT center and doing some great team conditioning sessions! So far our open gyms have been really successful. The team knows what they want to accomplish and everyone has been working hard to do their part.  It has been inspiring to see every one of my teammates come into the gym and have an internal drive to work so hard toward achieving their goals.  While it has been a challenge to keep ourselves on track during this open gym time, it has also been a learning experience to be able to really think about what we each need to be working on to be ready for season. With gymnastics being such a structured sport, it is often a little uncomfortable to come into the gym and not have someone telling you what you have to do! But we have learned it does help us think more about what we each need, and then we are definitely more understanding of where our coaches are coming from when we get into season and we might not like the assignments!

We are starting off really strong on bars this year! Everyone is learning new releases, and it is really fun to see my teammates do so well! Shout out to Tavia, Navia, Evelyn, and Olivia for performing their shaposhes on bars! Way to go Ladies!  We are striving to become a “force to be reckoned with” in our bar line-ups this season, so I hope you will all come and support us at our home meets this season!

I am beyond excited that we -- The Centenary Ladies Gymnastics Team -- are having such an awesome beginning to a new season! Not only are we gradually improving our skills and strength, but we are becoming a family rather than just teammates. I truly believe this kind of bond within the team sets the tone for our goal of qualifying to nationals as a team unit! I cannot wait to train the rest of this pre-season with my teammates because as we prepare side-by-side, we are becoming more resolute in performing OUR gymnastics; this makes all the hours of training worth it!

We start practice later this week, and will be having a great weekend together on our team retreat. Can’t wait to see what kind of surprises our coaches have in store for us as we get together to set our team goals and our teams core covenants for this year. Go Ladies!!!

Love you all,

Ashely
