SHREVEPORT, La. – Apparently, the Gents enjoy playing on the 23rd.

A fortuitous bounce off a header back to the Crusaders goalkeeper in the 67th minute for an own goal lifted Centenary (5-12, 2-11 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) to a 1-0 win again Dallas (7-8-2, 4-7-2) Sunday afternoon, Oct. 23.

The Gents knocked off Schreiner exactly a month ago on Sept. 23 for their only other conference win of the season.

Late in the 66th minute, freshman Travis Schantz lofted a ball toward the goal from near midfield. The Dallas defender tried to head the ball back to Crusaders’ goalie Tino Gamueda, but the ball bounced over his head and in to the back of the net for only score of the game.

Dallas outshot Centenary 19-11, including 8-4 in shots on goal, but Centenary goalie Rylan Whan (5-12) grabbed all eight shots faced for his third shutout of the season and seventh of his career. Gamueda (7-8-1) faced all four shots in the second half with three saves.

The Gents kept the pressure up after the goal, managing a pair of shots on target compared to one for Dallas. Luke Schwarz took a corner for the visitors in the final minute, but Whan saved the header by Hunter Haugland with 19 seconds left.

A foul by the visitors ended the game.

Schantz, sophomore Alex Penica, and freshman Gabe Rodriguez all managed a shot on goal for Centenary. Schwarz led Dallas with four shots, but only one was on goal.

The Gents, who will finish the season with the most wins since 2012, return to action for a non-conference midweek game at Hendrix at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 25.
