ABILENE, Texas – The Centenary golf team fired a 328 (+44) in day one of the Abilene Intercollegiate at Par-71 Diamondback Golf Course in Abilene, Texas.

The Gents sit eighth in a star-studded field that includes five ranked teams. Mary Hardin-Baylor leads the way with an even-par day of 284.

"Mental mistakes are killing them," said head coach Emlyn Aubrey. "Practice is great, casual rounds of golf are great, but we just have to learn to bring that mental outlook to tournament time. We are youmg and still learning, so I am not worried."

The story of the day may be freshman Brodey Warner and how he finished up his round. Sitting at +8 after 13 holes, he birdied 4-of-5 to finish his day at 75 (+4) and tied for 14th. Warner leads all golfers in the tournament with five birdies for round one, including shooting a three on a par-4 seventh that produced only three birdies all day.

Freshman Donald Frazier sits 39th with a round of 83 +12, with freshman Reed Balcerowicz (84, +13), junior Graham Maxwell (86, +15) and Edvard Granrud (87, +16) close behind.

Centenary returns to action tomorrow for the final round.
