SHREVEPORT, La. – On a night where the Maroon and White faithful celebrated the seniors on the final regular season contest of 2016, all three seniors got in the act of a big win.

Centenary (7-10, 4-8 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) used three first half goals and never looked back in a 3-1 win against Austin College (3-12-2, 1-9-2 SCAC) Saturday night, Oct. 29.

After Austin College was thwarted with a corner kick and an early shot on goal saved by senior Erica Coker, it was Centenary that struck first. In the 16th minute, sophomore Kati-Jayde Cunningham passed the ball to senior Marissa Hughes at the top of the 18. Her shot was just out of the reach of the goalkeeper for her fifth goal of the season.

After a couple of shots around a corner kick for the Ladies, sophomore Maddy Brown headed in her second goal of the season in the 32nd minute to put Centenary up a pair. She headed the ball in back post off a pass from senior Hannah Jo Wright.

Less than a minute later, Cunningham found the back of the net from inside the 18 for her 11th goal of the season.

Cunningham’s 11 goals are the most in a single-season since Holden Penney netted 13 in 2011.

Coker (6-8) grabbed eight saves and narrowly missed the shutout. Her counterpart for the ‘Roos, Laura McGee (3-12-2), allowed three goals on five shots faced.

The ‘Roos recorded their only goal in the 86th minute when Coker got chipped coming out for the ball and Kristi Stevens scored her first goal of the season.

Centenary, the fifth seed in the upcoming SCAC Women’s Soccer Tournament, returns to action Friday, November 5, and will face fourth-seeded Schreiner Friday afternoon in Kerrville, Texas.
