Gents Soccer Knocks Off Austin College in Season Finale

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Gents knew they were not playing for a chance to make the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament next weekend, but the Maroon and White made its presence known. With a score in the 86th minute, Centenary (7-12, 3-11 SCAC) finished the season with a three-game winning streak thanks to a 1-0 win against Austin College (9-7-3, 6-6-2 SCAC) Saturday night, Oct. 29. With both teams in a deadlock late, freshman Gabe Rodriguez found sophomore Nick Hammond in the 86th minute for the lone score of the game. Hammond finished the season with five goals. Senior goalie Rylan Whan (6-12) stopped all five shots faced for his ninth career shutout. With his save of the SCAC leading scorer, Phillip Le in the 17th minute, Whan hit 400 stops for his career. He finishes his Gents career with 404. It is also Whan’s ninth shutout in his four seasons between the pipes for the Gents. Joseph Khalaf (8-8-2) stopped six shots to lead Austin College. The win by Centenary knocks Austin College from the third to fifth seed in the upcoming SCAC Men’s Soccer Tournament. |
