Storied Career Ends for Rylan Whan with SCAC Player of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – What a season for senior Gents goalie Rylan Whan, and what a fitting end to his career.

Thanks to five saves in a 1-0 win against Austin College on Saturday, Oct. 29, the Gents finished the season with three-straight 1-0 victories to help Whan win the final Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week honor.

The accolade was his second of his career as he also won the award September 29, 2014

The five stops against the ‘Roos pushed Whan to 404 saves, 32 better than former Gent goalie Scott Wright (1988-91) for the top spot in the career annals. With four shutouts for his career, the ninth-most in a single-season, Whan sits fifth in career scoreless games at nine. His career 2.16 goals-against average is also the fifth-best in Centenary history.

Whan’s 1.68 goals-against average for the 2016 season was the best season mark of his collegiate career.

He finished top-50 in the country in saves his final three seasons in a Maroon and White uniform, including finishing 23rd in 2015 with 115 saves. Whan’s 7.67 saves per game average in 2015 ranked 19th in the country.

Whan holds the second, fourth, and fifth spots in the Gents soccer record book for saves in a season, stopping more than 100 shots in his final three seasons.

Centenary finished the season 7-12 overall and 3-11 in the SCAC, the best record for the Gents in five seasons.
