LONGVIEW, Texas – The Ladies and Yellow Jackets played an even first and fourth quarter, but a buzzer beater right before half and 15 unanswered by the home team to begin the third dropped Centenary (2-2) to LeTourneau (1-3) 82-73 Saturday afternoon, November 26.

With Centenary down 34-29 with 37 seconds left in the first half, freshman Essa Badon and sophomore Erin Temple hit threes around a LeTourneau free throw to tie the game. However, the YellowJackets’ Ashley Reed dribbled just past halfcourt in the right corner, let fly, and drained the shot. LeTourneau led 38-35 into the lockerroom.

The YellowJackets scored 15 straight to begin the second half, but a 16-6 run in a four-minute span cut the deficit back to single-digits. Senior Linda Gomez Gil hit a jumper and Badon hit a triple to pull the Ladies within 13.

Badon finished the game 8-for-15 from the field, including 6-for-12 from distance, for a collegiate best 22 points. Sophomore Jasmine Morris added 15 points and 10 rebounds for her second collegiate double-double. Junior Peyton Hurst scored 14, and Gomez Gil came off the bench for 10.

In a first half that featured seven ties, LeTourneau led by five under a minute left before the two Centenary threes. The home team went up 18 in the third, but two free throws by Morris brought Centenary within 62-55 with less than a minute left in the third. Crystal Jones for LeTourneau made a jumper with 25 seconds left as LeTourneau led 64-55 going in to the final quarter.

Up three at halftime, the YellowJackets scored the first 15 out of break. LaTanya Drakes hit a three, followed by a jumper by a pair of jumpers by Bria Goodman. A jumper by Ashley Crockett pushed the lead to double-digits, and a basket off a steal by Jaila Leaven pushed the deficit to 13. And old-fashioned three by Drakes and a Goodman jumper brought the LeTourneau lead to 53-35 with 6:26 left in the third.

Drakes scored 17 and added 14 rebounds for the double-double for LeTourneau. The YellowJackets took advantage of a 56-35 edge on the board and a 21-11 edge in second-chance points.

The Ladies close out the month of November with its home opener Sunday, November 27, when they host McMurry. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
