Sunday, December 11, 2016

SHREVEPORT, La. – In a vote conducted by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association released Sunday, December 11, Centenary Ladies soccer sophomore forward Kati-Jayde Cunningham has been named Honorable Mention All-Louisiana.

”Kati-Jayde is just beginning to scratch the surface of the type of player she’ll be and the accolades that will come,” said Centenary Assistant Athletic Director for Recreation and Facilities and former Ladies soccer coach David Orr. “She is very humble with such honors, which tells you about the level of her character. Kati-Jayde is a huge part of the reemergence of the Ladies soccer program.”

Cunningham received Second Team All-Conference recognition by the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, one of three Ladies to earn All-Conference distinction. She made an immediate impact for the Maroon and White in 2016, scoring the first goal of the 2016 season when she dribbled and spun around a defender and went far post against Belhaven in a 3-0 win September 1. In 2016, she led the team and finished third in the SCAC in both goals scored (11) and points (26).

In her first three home games of her Centenary career, Cunningham found the back of the net six times and added two assists, recording the game-winning goal each time. Her four game-winning goals for the season ranked second in the conference this season.

The initial SCAC Offensive Player of the Week in women’s soccer this season, Cunningham also grabbed two votes for SCAC Newcomer of the Year.

This is the first All-Louisiana recognition for Ladies soccer since the 2010 season, when Holden Penney was also named to the Honorable Mention team.
