LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – It has been quite the week for junior Centenary Gents basketball guard Travion Kirkendoll.

After becoming the 33rd Gents basketball player to reach 1,000 career points against Louisiana College on December 8, Kirkendoll garnered Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honors on Monday, December 12.

This is the first time this season and the fifth time in his career he was honored by the conference.

“We are excited for Travion and his continued growth,” said Gents head coach Adam Walsh. “This season, he has yet to really take the next step, but we were really excited about this game as a potential jumping-off point. He got another double-double and knocking off a major career highlight in getting his 1,000th point.”

In the Maroon and White’s 80-77 win over its Pelican State-rival, Kirkendoll scored 17 points and recorded 11 rebounds. It was his second double-double of the season and the eighth of his career. With a free throw at the 15:38 mark of the first half, Kirkendoll joined senior teammate James Sapp in reaching the 1,000-point mark this season.

Kirkendoll scored 16 points in as many minutes in the first half alone, going 5-for-8 from the field and 4-for-5 from the charity stripe.

Besides reaching the career-point milestone, Kirkendoll was honored before the game as the 2015-16 Donnie Wilhite Most Valuable Athlete Award recipient.

Centenary returns to action Saturday, December 17, when they kick off the Shreveport-Bossier Holiday Classic tripleheader at the CenturyLink Center in Bossier City. Tickets are available at the Gold Dome Athletic Office.
