SHREVEPORT, La. – The visitors pulled tied the game twice in the third quarter and trailed by one heading into the fourth, but the Ladies put on a shooting display in the final stanza as Centenary (3-6) blew by Rust (0-11) 87-64 Monday afternoon, December 19, in the final home game of 2016.

Up 61-58, a 21-2 run put the game away. Sophomore Savanah Doty started the spurt with a three, while senior DeiAnna Hall picked up a steal and fed sophomore Erin Temple for the hoop and harm. A three and layup by senior Linda Gomez Gil capped the 11 unanswered in 2:37 by Centenary.

A jumper by Rust cut the lead to 12, but a jumper by sophomore Jasmine Morris jumpstarted a mini 9-0 run. Gomez Gil hit another three, split from the line twice while Morris added a trey to push the lead to 82-60 with 3:40 left in the game.

After Hall made a fastbreak layup while being fouled with 1:19 remaining on the clock, and Rust down to only three eligible players after foul trouble, the game was called for the Ladies win.

Gomez Gil, who scored 10 points on 3-for-3 shooting in the fourth, came off the bench for 15. Morris led the quintet in double-figures with 24, while Doty narrowly missed the double-double with 14 points and nine boards. Hall and junior Peyton Hurst added 10.

The fourth quarter run was fueled by no Centenary miscues, as the Ladies had 22 turnovers through three quarters.

Up 23-20 in the second quarter, the Ladies scored seven straight in just more than a minute to push the lead to double-digits. Doty split from the line, Gomez Gil grabbed a steal and added the fastbreak layup. She hit a pair of free throws, and a Hurst layup put the home team up 30-20 with 4:24 until half.

Centenary led 35-26 at the break.

The Ladies led 47-36 with 4:50 left in the third, but a 15-4 run in a 3:30 span tied the game. Chelsea Gilbert hit a three for the Bearcats. After the Ladies split from the line, Jasmine Golden hit a jumper and Gilbert split from the line. Megan Rayford added a fastbreak hoop off a steal to cut the lead to four, but Hall tried to stem the tide when she split from the line. Both team exchanged baskets, and a Golden three cut the lead to two. A steal and Jasmine Pitchford layup tied the game at 51 with 1:06 left in the third.

Centenary led by one after three before the big fourth quarter gave the home team a 23-point win.

Golden led Rust with a game high 28 points, while Pitchford added 15. Rayford had the double-double with 14 points and 10 boards.

The Ladies return to action when the open up Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play at Austin College December 30. Tip is set for 4 p.m.
