SHREVEPORT, La. – The Ladies led by as much as 11 in the first half, but a big push by the Warriors tied the game and the Maroon and White only had a brief lead in the second half as Centenary (3-8) fell to Hendrix (6-5) 72-63 Monday night, January 2.

With Centenary holding a slim 25-24 lead early in the second quarter, a 10-0 run pushed the lead to double digits. Sophomore Savanah Doty hit a fastbreak three on a dime from Morris, but neither team scored for the next two minutes. Senior Linda Gomez Gil made a layup and a pair of free throws, and freshman Essa Badon drained a three to open up a 35-24 lead with 5:28 until half.

Morris led Centenary with 15 points, while classmate Erin Temple came off the bench for 11. However, Hendrix used a 53-34 edge in rebounds and a 16-5 advantage in second-chance points for the win.

Freshman Deunya Small made a layup for the 11-point lead with 3:32 until half, but Hendrix went on a 12-1 run to tie the game at the break. Sara Dyslin started the run with a layup, followed by two Hailey Bode free throws. Leah Smith drained a pair of threes to cap the 10-0 run in 1:23. Morris split from the line, but a Smith layup at the buzzer tied the game at 38 heading to the lockeroom.

Smith came off the bench to lead the team with 20 points on 7-for-10 shooting – including a 4-for-5 mark from behind the arc. Dyslin added the double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Bode chipped in 17 for the visitors.

Centenary trailed 47-42 in the third quarter, but a Temple three and Small layup tied the game at 47. After Hendrix made a shot, Temple responded with a fastbreak three to give Centenary the brief second half lead.

Hendrix led 55-52 heading to the fourth and never led by less than two the rest of the way in the nine-point win.

Centenary returns to action Friday night, January 6, when it travels to Schreiner. Tip in Kerrville is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
