KERRVILLE, Texas – The Ladies rallied from an 11-point deficit to take a lead with 38 seconds to go, but the Mountaineers recorded the final six points of the game as Centenary (3-9, 0-2 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) fell to Schreiner (3-9, 1-0 SCAC) 68-63 Friday night, January 6.

The Maroon and White trailed by as much as 11 at halftime and 10 near the end of the third quarter. However, the Ladies hit the final bucket of the third and scored seven unanswered to begin the fourth to pull within one. Down 52-42, sophomore Jasmine Morris made a shot with 25 seconds left in the third. Senior DeiAnna Hall hit a pair from the line and a shot off a defensive rebound to begin the fourth, and sophomore Savanah Doty hit a triple to cut the deficit to one with 8:50 left in the game.

Trailing 57-53, the Ladies went 6-for-8 from the line to take its first lead of the game.

Schreiner scored the next five points, but freshman Deunya Small and senior Linda Gomez Gil added buckets to give the Ladies the 63-62 lead with 38 seconds left.

Doty led Centenary with 16 points, while Morris chipped in 10. The Ladies took advantage of a 20-9 edge in points off turnovers, but Schreiner used a 44-37 advantage in rebounds and 33-18 lead in bench points.

Schreiner trailed by one with 38 seconds left, but quickly came down the court and Sabriyyah Fennell made a bucket with 32 seconds left. After a timeout advanced the ball to halfcourt, the Ladies threw a costly turnover. Centenary fouled and the home team hit both from the charity stripe. Centenary threw another turnover on the inbounds, and the layup by Christonna Jones put the finishing touches on the game.

To begin the game, Schreiner led 10-8 when Codi Simmons made a pair from the line and a three to push the advantage to 15-8 after one quarter. The Mountaineers led 21-15 in the second when Fennell scored five unanswered with a triple and a jumper.

Simmons led Schreiner with 18 points off the bench before fouling out, while Fennell added 17 points and eight boards. Jordyn Villa chipped in 10 points.

Both teams made 19 field goals in the game, including five from behind the arc. The difference came from the charity stripe, where Schreiner went 25-for-34 (73.5 percent) compared to 20-for-25 (80 percent) for the Maroon and White.

Centenary returns to action tomorrow when it takes on #14 Trinity. Tip in San Antonio is set for 4 p.m.
