Junior Ashley White Brings us Gym Talk in Preparation for the Ladies First Meet
Friday, January 27, 2017

Hello Gymnastics Fans! Thanks for tuning in to this week’s Gym talk!

This week, the Ladies had the weekend off; so, we got back in the gym and polished up some of our routines and new skills, and we trained HARD!

Since we did not have a competition this weekend, Coach Jackie assigned us to study chapters from the book, Mind Gym, so we could brush up on the effects of positive and negative mind-sets. Additionally, we also watched the past world’s best gymnasts compete at the Olympic trials, and the Olympics! Before workout, we all came together and discussed how the world’s best gymnasts approached competition (body posture, the look of confidence, the smiles, positive attitudes, and taking a deep breath before stepping onto the floor). In learning the important aspects of this assignment, really set the tone for our practice tonight as we move towards our next competition!

Today, Elizabeth Sander began training again for the floor exercise after she sustained an injury last year. You trained excellently today, Liz! Also, Delia flipped her beautiful layout for the first time in months! Great job, Delia! Since I was out for a little while on some events due to a minor injury, I am finally well and doing full-sets again on bars! So, now we have three gymnasts competing double-back layouts in bar line-ups again!

Aside from these highlights mentioned, we also focused on pressure sets on all four events this week. This is where we practice like we are about to warm-up and then compete in a meet. The Ladies trained very well through these pressure sets, and we successfully completed tumbling passes on the competition floor, vaulted competition landings, and improved our confidence on bars and beam! Way to go Ladies!

From studying some of the world’s best gymnasts, it really inspired all of us to aspire “to be” like them. We observed how confident and determined they were to compete to the best of their ability, which gave us the power and will to compete like we practice!

All in all, I am SO honored and proud to be a part of a team who is willing to develop the same mind-set as these Olympians, and I was so very pleased that our entire team strived for perfection this week! We are so thrilled to compete for our home meet at the Gold Dome this weekend! Please come and watch the Ladies Gymnastics Team on Friday, Jan. 27 at 6 p.m., as we compete against Wisconsin Oshkosh; and, on Sunday, Jan. 29 at 1 p.m., as we dual the Air Force Academy! Thank you for your support of the Centenary Ladies Gymnastics Team! We cannot wait to see you there!

Much Love!

Ash White
