SEGUIN, Texas – The Ladies managed to take the lead after the Bulldogs went up 4-0 to begin the game, but a pair of runs in both the first and second quarters by the home team helped Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference-leading Texas Lutheran (16-4, 8-1 SCAC) beat Centenary (5-15, 1-8 SCAC) 95-69 Saturday night, January 28.

After Texas Lutheran hit the first two shots of the game, Centenary freshman Deunya Small converted the hoop and foul shot while sophomore Sheridan Smith contributed an easy three. Both teams traded buckets before a 6-0 run put the Bulldogs in the lead for good.

Small grabbed a game-best 10 rebounds. Sophomore Jasmine Morris led the Ladies with 15 points.

While the Maroon and White shot 11-for-34 (32.4 percent) in the first half, Texas Lutheran jumped out to a 22-point halftime advantage thanks to 20-for-32 shooting (62.5 percent).

With the Ladies down 17-10, freshman Essa Badon canned a triple off a Small offensive board. However, Savannah Hight made a pair from the line, Cierra Jordan took a defensive rebound coast-to-coast for the layup and foul, and Bryanna Delgado hit a pair to extend the lead to double-digits for the Bulldogs.

With Centenary down 32-22 in the second quarter, Smith hit another three and then split from the line. However, Hight hit a pair of jumpers, Jordan added two from the charity stripe, and a layup by Caitlin Cote put Texas Lutheran up double-digits for good in the game.

Kristen Lye led the Bulldogs with 22 points on 10-for-13 shooting. Savannah Hight added 10 on 6-for-8 shooting and an 8-for-10 mark from the line. Jordan contributed 11 points and seven assists with just one turnover.

Centenary returns to action next Friday, February 3, when it travels to Colorado College. Tip in Colorado Springs is slated for 6:30 p.m. (5:30 p.m. in Colorado).
