MARSHALL, Texas – The Gents exploded for four runs in the fourth while junior Kaleb Krik allowed just four hits in eight innings of work as Centenary (4-1) blasted East Texas Baptist (2-2) 10-0 on Friday night, February 10.

Kirk fanned 10 Tigers in eight innings of work and only threw 90 pitches. No East Texas Baptist batter with Kirk on the mound advanced past second.

After Centenary scored an unearned run in the second, the Gents exploded for four runs in the fourth. Junior Ian Graham led off the inning with his first home run of the season. Classmate Cole Lavergne followed with a double, and sophomore Andrew Russell’s single put men on the corners. Sophomore Cameron Guin followed with a sacrifice fly to put the Maroon and White up three.

After a stolen base and error, senior Aaron Quintanilla hit the second sacrifice fly of the inning. Freshman Cody Crowder added a single for the final run of the fourth.

The Gents banged out 18 hits, including five in as many at-bats for Crowder. He added three RBI’s and a run scored.

Crowder added an RBI double in the sixth, but the Gents scored two runs in the eighth after having two outs and no one on base. Crowder singled and advanced to third on senior Michael Schimpf’s double. Singles by junior Chris Zapata and Graham scored a pair of runs in the frame.

In the ninth, Centenary freshman Zane Wilkinson hit an RBI double and scored on Crowder’s single. Graham went 4-for-5 with a triple short of the cycle with two runs scored and drove in two.

East Texas Baptist threatened to score in the ninth after a walk and passed ball put runners in scoring position. However, junior Jackie Allen recorded a strikeout and popup to end the contest.

Centenary and East Texas Baptist wrap up their three-game series tomorrow with seven and nine inning games. First pitch on Saturday, February 11, is at 1p.m.
