LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – With the Centenary baseball team coming off a three-game sweep of East Texas Baptist, outscoring the Tigers 42-13, junior Kaleb Kirk and freshman Cody Crowder took home the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher and Player of the Week awards, announced the conference offices on Monday, February 13.

“Cody and Kaleb were outstanding this weekend,” said head coach Mike Diaz. “Kaleb set the time tone to the weekend, while Cody had it going the entire series. Having performances like that on the road against a quality opponent was huge for our team.”

Kirk (1-0) twirled a gem Friday night, holding the high-powered Tigers offense to four hits with 10 strikeouts in eight innings of work in a 10-0 Gents win. In fact, no East Texas Baptist player advanced past second base the entire game.

Meanwhile, freshman Cody Crowder grabbed Hitter of the Week honors after going 11-for-16 with six RBI’s and five runs scored. He managed at least three hits in every contest, including a 5-for-5 mark on Friday night. For the season, he leads the conference in hits (19), RBI’s (12) and doubles (six) – while ranking second with a .594 batting average. He also has at least three hits in 5-of-7 contests so far this season.

Besides Friday’s win, Centenary swept a doubleheader on Saturday from East Texas Baptist, 13-3 and 19-10.
