LONGVIEW, Texas – Centenary baseball (7-1) took advantage of extra outs to score threeunanswered runs in a 4-1 win at Letourneau (3-2) Friday night, February 17.

After both teams stood scoreless after two innings, a key one-out error led to a pair of runs for the Gents. Sophomore Cameron Guin advanced all the way to second after an error and scored on freshman Zane Wilkinson’s RBI double. With two outs, senior Michael Schimpf singled to score Wilkinson and put the visitors up 2-0.

LeTourneau scored its only run in the fourth, but a key outfield assist limited the damage. With one out and one on, Noah Mahoney singled. Ryan Conger followed with an RBI single, but Centenary threw behind the runner to throw out Mahoney at second. An infield hit and walk loaded the bases, but sophomore Matthew Devillier got Haden Simmons to strikeout looking to end the LeTourneau threat.

Centenary scored two in the fifth to extend the lead to three. With one out, senior Aaron Quintanilla was hit by a pitch and freshman Cody Crowder got a base hit to extend his hitting streak to eight games. An miscue by the second baseman with Schimpf hitting cleared the bases and put the Gents up 4-1.

Deviller (2-0) pitched seven innings and gave up only six hits and one run, giving the ball to junior Cole Lavergne for the final two innings. In the ninth, LeTourneau brought the tying run to the plate with one out, but Lavergne used only five pitches for a strikeout and groundout to record his third save of the season.

Centenary returns to action tomorrow when it takes on Mary-Hardin Baylor at 3 p.m. in Tyler, Texas.
