LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Centenary men’s basketball senior James Sapp has been named the final Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for his performance against Austin College on Saturday, February 18.

“We are happy for James to finish up his career at home with this type of performance,” said head coach Adam Walsh. “On his last night playing on his home floor, he gave a memorable performance. He was an integral part of our run to send the game to overtime and to finish it off.”

On senior day, Sapp scored 29 points in helping the Gents beat the ‘Roos 102-98 in overtime. He added 10 boards for his 14th double-double of the season. He scored eight of the Maroon and White’s 15 points in overtime, shooting 3-for-4 from the floor and made both from the free throw line.

Sapp finished the regular season leading the SCAC in both points (21.4) and rebounds (10.0), the first to accomplish this feat in nine years. He ranks 35th in NCAA Division III in scoring and 43rd in rebounding.

Centenary, the sixth seed in the upcoming SCAC Tournament, takes on third-seeded Texas Lutheran in the quarterfinals at 7 p.m. Friday, February 24. Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m.
