Ladies Take Fourth, Gents Golf Finishes Sixth at Hal Sutton Invite

BOSSIER CITY, La. – Both Centenary golf teams improved on their scores from day one as the Ladies finished fourth and the Gents took sixth after the final round of the Hal Sutton Invite at the par-72 Golf Club at Stonebridge Tuesday afternoon, March 21.

The Ladies (+133, 709) and Hardin-Simmons (694, +118) flip-flopped from the standings after round one. Tyler Junior College won the tournament with a 618 (+42). The Maroon and White bested four teams, including NCAA Division I Jackson State (757, +181) and Louisiana College (1079, +503).

Sophomore Jessica Varner carded a final round 79 (+7), the seventh-best round of the day, to finish tied for ninth. Four-of-five Centenary Ladies golfers shot the same or better rounds from Monday, including sophomore Taylor Adair to finish 16th (169, +25), junior Toni Collaro to come in at 28th (202, +58), and senior Courtney Kale to finish 31st (232, +88).

Freshman Erin Rostro finished 18th with a final round of 90 (+18) and a 174 (+30) total.

The Gents shot a 324 (+36) for the final round and totaled 656 (+80) to finish sixth – ahead of Pelican State rival Louisiana College (728, +156). Tyler Junior College took the tournament with a two-round total of 567 (-9), led by Marco Maldonado win by 11 strokes, the only golfer to finish under par for the tournament (133, -11).

Freshman Taylor Wells led Centenary on the day with a 76 (+4), finishing the tournament with a 162 (+18) and 23rd. Freshman Brodey Warner led the Gents with a two-round total of 158 (+14) to finish 19th. Freshman Reed Balcerowicz took 30th (+23, 167), sophomore Edvard Granrud finished 34th (169, +125), and freshman Gabe Rodriguez took 37th (176, +32).

The Ladies golf team returns to action next week and the Ogio-Bulldog Classic in Indio, California.
