SHREVEPORT, La. – The Ladies scored the first five points of the game and never trailed as Centenary (2-6) knocked off Millsaps (3-5) 78-63 in the first game of the 2017 Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission Holiday Classic Saturday afternoon, December 16.

Centenary used season highs in points (78), assists (16), and shooting percentage (43.5, 27-for-62) for the victory, as well as a 38-28 edge in points in the paint. Junior Jasmine Morris also added season highs in both points (18) and rebounds (10) for the first Ladies first double-double of the season.

Sophomore Deunya Small scored a career high 15 points.

Freshman Haylee Washington made a pair from the line and junior Savanah Doty hit a three to begin the game for the Ladies. Centenary ended the first quarter with the final six points to hold a 13-6 advantage heading to the second. Freshman Kayla King made a fastbreak layup and added a jumper, while a Morris jumper capped the quarter.

In the second, Centenary raced out to a 19-point lead with 12 unanswered in a 2:27 span. Doty and Bellard made back-to-back triples before King split from the line. Senior Samantha Lyons followed with a layup through contact, made the free throw, and punctuated the run with a jumper as Centenary led 36-17. Millsaps ended the scoring drought with a three by Megan Donaldson as Centenary led by 16 at intermission.

The Ladies led by as much as 20 in the third after a Bellard three, but Millsaps cut the lead to nine.  However, freshman Bre Frierson ended the third and Washington began the fourth with layups to answer back for Centenary, who led by double-digits the rest of the game. Centenary led 70-60 before a Morris jumper, a split from the line for Bellard, and a Morris layup gave the home team a 15-point advantage. Morris scored eight points on 3-for-5 shooting in the fourth quarter alone.

Bellard came off the bench for 11, her first college double-digit scoring output. Frierson added seven in her first collegiate basketball game.

After Centenary took a 48-28 lead in the third, Millsaps quickly answered with five straight. Brazia Jones made a layup while being fouled and completed the three-point play. Dia Fortenberry added a layup after a Centenary turnover.
