Gents Basketball Renews Rivalry with Familiar Foe

MONROE, La. – For the first time in seven years, the Centenary Gents basketball team (6-3) takes on ULM (5-5) in a game that is countable for both teams.

  • The Centenary Gents (6-3) play its first countable game against ULM since the 2010-2011 season in Monroe.
  • Both teams met last year in Monroe, with ULM claiming a 96-63 win in a game that was countable for the Warhawks but an exhibition for Centenary.
  • Sophomore Cedric Harris is the only Gent who has scored in double figures all 10 games this season. After scoring two and six in his first two games this season, junior Treylan Matthews has achieved this same feat.
  • Counting exhibitions, this is the fourth and final game against teams from the Pelican State for Centenary. The Gents lost to LSU-Shreveport and Southeast Louisiana in exhibitions and beat Louisiana College earlier this month.

 

 

Last Game against ULM

  

The last time the Gents and Warhawks met on the court, it was an exhibition for the Gents and a countable game for ULM on November 11, 2016. Centenary won the tip and made a free throw to score the first point of the game, but ULM scored eight straight and never looked back in a 96-63 win.

  

Travion Kirkendoll led Centenary with 24 points, while Jericho Gray added 12 off the bench.

  

Jordon Harris came off the bench for 23 points while Travis Munnings recorded the double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds.

 

 

The Series with ULM

  

This will be the 34th meeting on the court between ULM and Centenary, with the Gents holding a 19-14 advantage (ULM will have 19-15 because of the exhibition game for the Gents and a countable game for ULM).

  

ULM won it the last meeting where it counted for both teams in 2010-2011, 60-46. The last Centenary win was in the Gold Dome in the 2009-10 season, 94-84.

 

 

In the NCAA Rankings

 

As a team, the Gents rank in the top-100 in NCAA Division III in multiple categories. Centenary sits 85th in assist/turnover ratio (1.17). The Gents are 78th with 83.3 points per game, 69th with 16.8 assists per game, and 58th with 152 free throws made.

  

Individually, senior Travion Kirkendoll is 16th with 23.4 points per game and eighth with three steals per game. Cedric Harris is 44th in scoring with 21.3 points per game.

 

 

Kirkendoll and Harris’ 44.7 combined points per game ranks third in the country among scoring duos, behind Grinnell’s Vinny Curta and Ky-Sean Johnson (54.2) and Eureka’s Shea Feehan and Hank Thomas (53.5).
