SHREVEPORT, La. – Freshman Kayla King has been close a few times in the last few games to achieving the elusive double-double, but she did it in a big way in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game Friday night, February 2.

King reached career highs in both points (16 points) and rebounds (15) with four steals – tallying six points, six rebounds, and three steals in the first quarter alone – as Centenary (7-14, 4-6 SCAC) knocked off Dallas (8-13, 2-8 SCAC) 78-64.

Tied at 17 in the second quarter, 12 unanswered gave Centenary a double-digit lead for all but 50 seconds the rest of the game. Freshman Ethany Cosby made a fastbreak layup and classmate Darelzray Bellard hit back-to-back threes. Two layups by Cosby, the second coming off a steal and a finish of a fastbreak, gave Centenary a 12-point edge late in the second quarter. Two jumpers right before the half by sophomore Deunya Small gave Centenary a 16-point cushion at the break.

Cosby came off the bench for 14 as all 11 Centenary players that appeared in the game made a field goal. While Centenary only outrebounded Dallas on the offensive glass 21-16, the Ladies used a 29-8 advantage in second chance points for the game.

Dallas trailed 72-57 with less than three minutes to play, but six unanswered briefly cut the lead to single digits. Vanessa Diaz made a layup and Celsi Caraway made a pair of jumpers.

Diaz led the Crusaders with 23 points while Caraway came off the bench for 12.

Centenary concludes home play in the 2017-18 season when it celebrates senior night February 3 against Colorado College. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
