GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Ladies were able to take a two-point lead at the intermission, but the Maroon and White only hit 15.2 percent (5-for-33) from the field in the second half as Centenary (8-16, 5-8 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) fell to Southwestern (10-14, 7-7 SCAC) 56-40 Saturday night, February 10.

Tied at 21 late in the first half, freshman Haylee Washington made a layup and junior Savanah Doty hit a three. However, Southwestern made a layup and split from the line to cut the Ladies advantage to 26-24 at halftime.

Doty led Centenary with 13 points on 5-for-18 shooting, including three triples. Freshman Haylee Washington grabbed 12 boards.

With Centenary up 29-26 early in the third after a senior Samantha Lyons three, a 10-3 run gave the Pirates the lead for good. Madison Edwards and Cecily Woolfolk made layups, while Madison Edwards added a jumper to put the home team up three. Doty retied the game with a three-pointer for the ninth tie of the game, but two Kelsey Faykus free throws and a layup by Naomi Brown put Southwestern up 36-32 with 3:51 left in the third.

Southwestern countered Centenary’s poor shooting second half by making 52.2 percent (12-for-23) from the field. The Pirates also used a 32-16 edge in points in the paint.

Woolfolk recorded the double-double for Southwestern with 14 points and 10 boards.
