JACKSON,Miss.– The Centenary softball team dropped both games in day one of the Millsap College Invitational, falling to Millsaps 13-1 and Webster 15-3 Saturday afternoon.

The setbacks drop the Ladies to 0-8 while Millsaps improved to 4-3 winning both contests. Webster picked up a split on the day to open the season 1-1.

Millsaps opened game one with a six-run, first inning and controlled the game from the first pitch. Cadie Hancock knocked in the lone run for the Maroon and White reaching on an error in the third inning.

Lauren Swift added to her team lead in hits going 2-for-2 at the plate. Nicole Warren had the other hit going 1-for-3 at the plate.

Webster jumped on the board quick with a two-run, first inning in game two. Centenary answered back with two runs in the bottom of the frame.

Warrensingled and advanced to second on an error by the second baseman that allowed Whitney Pearson to reach. Swift knocked inWarrenon a sacrifice fly and Pearson would score on a fielder’s choice by Erin Crites.

A quartet of Ladies recorded hits in the game withWarrengoing 1-for-3, Crites 1-for-2, Lindsey Sconce 1-for-2, and Jessica McDonald 1-for-2.

Lynsi Unruh suffered the loss in the circle for both games, combining for 10.0 innings and allowing 21 earned runs.   

Centenary completes play in the Invitational Sunday taking on Webster at 10 a.m followed by Millsaps at 2 p.m.
