Ladies Softball Adds Payton LeBlanc for 2017

SHREVEPORT, La. – Centenary softball and second-year head coach Mark Suire is pleased to announce the addition of sophomore Payton LeBlanc for the 2017 season.

LeBlanc comes to Centenary after spending last season at Louisiana-Lafayette.

“Payton adds depth and versatility to our team. She can be utilized both as an outfielder and a middle infielder,” explained head coach Mark Suire. “She will make an impact immediately, and is a viable option to be used it the lead-off spot of the lineup. More importantly, Payton is a great teammate, and we are excited that she has joined the Centenary softball family.”

Prior to Louisiana-Lafayette, she played her senior season at second base and outfield for coach Suire at New Iberia Catholic High School. She also played four seasons, starting in seventh grade, for coach Suire at Delcambre.

At Delcambre, she earned five letters through her junior year and helped the Panthers secure three District Championships and finish District Runner-Ups twice. While playing for six seasons between Delcambre and New Iberia Catholic, she helped the teams qualify for the state playoffs all six seasons.

Individual accolades include finishing as an All-District Outfielder her final three years of high school while being named First Team All-State at Catholic High School. LeBlanc also garnered First Team All-Vermillion Parish as an outfielder her sophomore and junior seasons while being named to the Best of the Teche All-Area Teams as an outfielder her sophomore, junior and senior years.

LeBlanc was a multi-sport athlete while in high school. also playing volleyball, basketball, and ran track and cross country. Off the field, she also won the Academic Beta Award.

Centenary softball kicks off the 2017 season Friday, February 3, with single games against Pacific (Oregon) and last year’s national champion, UT-Tyler. First pitch against Pacific (Oregon) is set for 1 p.m., while the Ladies take on the Patriots at 5 p.m.
