SHREVEPORT, La. – It will be a battle for the top spot in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Friday and Saturday, March 31-April 1, when Centenary (10-12, 7-1 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) welcomes #19 Texas Lutheran (22-4, 10-0 SCAC).

The Conference Turnaround

Centenary sat at 3-11 in the non-conference, but has won 7-of-8 to begin conference play and sits second to visiting Texas Lutheran.

The Ladies came into conference play, hitting only .268, but are hitting .286 in conference play. The Ladies have also seen a decline in the ERA, going from 5.47 in non-conference play to 2.10 in SCAC action.

The biggest turnarounds individually are sophomores Wendy Gillet from the plate and Nichole Aldridge in the circle. Through 13 non-conference contests, Gillet hit only .156 with five hits – the lowest average among players with more than five starts. In conference, she leads the team with a .360 average and nine hits, nine RBI’s, four doubles, and two sacrifice flies.

In the circle, Nichole Aldridge held a 3-5 record with a 4.81 ERA before SCAC play. In conference, she is 4-1 with three saves, and a 1.16 ERA.

 

Last Time Out

Coming into the weekend having only beaten Trinity two times in 16 tries, and never in San Antonio, the Ladies won a 10-inning, 3-2 nail-biter in the opening series, and went on to sweep the Tigers.

For the weekend, Centenary only trailed briefly in the last game on the weekend before rallying for another 3-2 win.

Next Up

Centenary will celebrate senior day during its final home games of the season next week when Southwestern visits Shreveport April 8-9 for a pair of doubleheaders. First pitch both days is set for noon.
