SHREVEPORT, La. – The Ladies and Bulldogs played to a stalemate through six innings of game one, but the visitors scored three in the seventh and won 14-1 in game two as Centenary (10-16, 7-5 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) dropped a doubleheader on the final day of the series against Texas Lutheran (26-4, 14-0 SCAC) Saturday afternoon, April 1.

In game one, Centenary surrendered a single hit in each of the first three innings and two in the sixth, but the Ladies kept the Bulldogs off the scoreboard. With two outs in the first, sophomore Nichole Aldridge allowed a triple and hit a batter, but she got a pop out to end the threat.

After Aldridge, classmate Lauren Beadle entered the circle for the second. She allowed a hit and two stolen bases as the Bulldogs had a runner on third with one out, but a pop out and line out ended the threat.

In the third, a one-out single off of Beadle was erased on a lineout to first. The runner left the base and sophomore Wendy Gillet caught the ball and turned to touch the bag.

Meanwhile, senior Mallory Ford recorded Centenary’s lone hit in the fifth on a ball that snuck through the right side.

In the seventh for Texas Lutheran, Nicole Snow led off the inning with a double and advanced to third on Brayden Pinckard’s single. Alyssa Cantu followed with an RBI single. A sacrifice bunt moved runners to second and third, and a throwing error scored both runs for the final 3-0 differential.

Beadle (2-4) took the loss in relief for Centenary in the circle, allowing seven hits and three runs (two earned) in six innings of work. Maitlin Raycroft (14-2) took the win for the Bulldogs, allowing one hit while striking out 11 in the complete game.

In game two, Centenary scored a lone run around two bouts of seven unanswered by Texas Lutheran. Down 7-0 in the fourth, Gillet singled and freshman pinch runner Madison Fremen entered the game. Freshman Haley Campbell drove her in with a single to left center.

Aldridge (7-8) took the loss in game two, allowing four hits and five runs (three earned) in 0.1 innings pitched. From the plate, Campbell went 2-for-2 with an RBI.

In the first for Texas Lutheran, Kyla Lockley led off the game with a home run. Cassie Roche followed with a single and stole second. After an error put runners on first and second, Snow singled and Pinckard tripled to put the visitors up 4-0. An RBI groundout scored the final run of the frame for the Bulldogs.

Kaymee Gooden added a two-run home run in the second and sixth for her only hits in five at-bats.

Amanda Lochte (10-1) picked up the win for Texas Lutheran, allowing four hits and one run.

Centenary returns to action next weekend, April 8-9, for its final home games of 2017 against Southwestern. Both days will be doubleheaders beginning at noon, with senior day to be celebrated on Saturday.
