HAWKINS, Texas – The Ladies jumped to a 4-0 lead in set one and 22-17 in set three, but the Bulldogs scored 8-of-9 to end the match as Centenary (3-15) fell in straight sets to Jarvis Christian (10-13) 26-24, 25-21, 25-23 Wednesday night, Sept. 28.

Centenary hit negative through two sets and went 14-for-38 with five errors (.237 hitting percentage) in the third, but only hit .061 for the match. Sophomore Ashley Brown led the Ladies with nine kills and only three errors on 23 swings (.261 hitting percentage) with two blocks.

Up 17-16 in the third, a service error put freshman Marissa Sandoval on serve. An ace precipitated a Jarvis Christian timeout. An attack error and a kill from junior Desiree Frey put the Maroon and White up 21-16. Both teams sided out, but the Bulldogs scored 8-of-9 to end the match on the back of Kandice Jackson’s serve. On the first match point, a kill by Frey on junior Allison Lazewski’s match-best 20th assist cut the deficit to one, but Talicia Long’s 10th kill ended the match, and with 12 digs, gave her the double-double.

Keandra Tillman for the home team narrowly missed a triple-double with 10 kills, 10 assists, and eight digs.

A wild first set went to the Bulldogs. With Jarvis Christian up 23-21, a sophomore Shannon Orlopp kill and an attack error by the Bulldogs tied the frame at 23. Both teams sided out as Centenary repelled a set point. However, a critical replay wiped away the Ladies chance at its own set point and a kill by Talicia Lang put Jarvis Christian on a second set point. This time, a kill by the Bulldog’s Heidi George put the home team up a set with the 26-24 triumph.

Jarvis Christian claimed the second set by four before finishing out the match in straight sets.

Centenary volleyball returns to action next Saturday, Oct. 8, when it travels to Irving, Texas, for the second Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference divisional against Austin College, Colorado College and host Dallas.
