COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Ladies began the second half of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Friday night, October 13, as Centenary (10-12, 2-6 SCAC) fell to Austin College (18-7, 4-4 SCAC) 25-17, 25-11, 25-20.

Junior Shyann Pisano recorded a career best and match high eight kills, hitting only one error on 15 attempts. Classmate Michaela Brantley added seven kills.

However, Austin College took advantage of an 8-1 edge in blocks and .386-.132 in hitting percentage for the straight-set win.

Down two sets and 1-0 in the third, the Ladies scored 5-of-6 to take a 5-2 lead. A Brantley kill tied the set, and a junior Hailey Lawson ace gave Centenary the lead. Lawson finished the match with two aces and now has 153 for her career – seven away from the record.

After both teams sided out, sophomore Marissa Sandoval recorded an ace and Pisano killed an overpass.

Down 23-15 later in the set, Centenary scored four-straight on Lawson kills to force an Austin College timeout. However, Austin College scored 2-of-3 to end the match.

In the second set tied at four, the ‘Roos went on an 11-1 run to take control. After Dani DeWitt tallied a kill, Madison Winslett subbed into serve. Three Centenary errors, a pair of blocks, two kills each by Brooke Harris and Kristen Massey, and an ace from Winslett put Austin College up 10. The only thing that stopped Winslett’s serve, and later the run, were two ‘Roos service errors.

Massey led Austin College with seven kills and 11 attempts with no errors (.636 hitting percentage). Massey and Rabekah Bowden added four blocks each.

Centenary returns to action Saturday, October 14, against Dallas at 11:30 a.m. (10:30 a.m. MST) and #2 and host Colorado College at 6 p.m. (5 p.m. MST).
