Ladies still looking for first win after UT Dallas Tourney

RICHARDSON, Texas – Centenary dropped its last two matches at the UT Dallas Tournament Saturday afternoon with straight-set losses to host UT Dallas (25-13, 27-25, 25-13) and Hardin-Simmons (25-16, 25-20, 25-13).

UT Dallas and Hardin-Simmons upped their marks to 3-0 while the Ladies are still searching for win No. 1 at 0-4.

Centenary returns to action next weekend at the UT Tyler Tournament, starting Sept. 7 with two matches against familiar foes, LeTourneau and Mary Hardin-Baylor, which accounted for two of the Ladies four losses so far. Centenary will face ETBU and UT Tyler Sept. 8.

Midway through the second frame, the Ladies led UT Dallas 13-9 before the host squad scored seven of the next eight points to take ea 16-14 lead. The Ladies rattled off four straight after a timeout to jump back up 18-14, but couldn’t put the set out of reach.

Brooke Bahlinger led the squad in kills (8), attacks (27) and digs (12) in the three-set loss to the host Comets. Beth Nuttall accounted for 12 of the Ladies 24 assists.

UTD’s Dana Hilzendager posted the only double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs. Teammate Abbie Barth recorded a game-high 18 kills with only three errors in 39 attacks.

In the Ladies nightcap, Sarah Sumner topped the team charts with six kills and with only two errors. Her 14 attacks were also a team-best, followed by Sarah Irons with 11, who had five kills with a single error for a .364 hitting mark.

Defensively, the Ladies were very balanced with six recording multiple digs. Senior Jesi Wilcox led the way with eight while Shelby Jackson wasn’t far behind with six.

Morgan Watts topped Hardin-Simmons with a stellar .833 hitting mark. She was error free in 12 attacks with 10 kills. Emilee Davis posted 13 digs.
