Youth prevails as Ladies fall twice
TYLER, Texas– Centenary’s youth exposed itself Friday afternoon at the UT Tyler Tournament as the Ladies volleyball struggles continue, dropping both matches. Centenary (0-6) had two chances to avenge losses at last weekend’s UT Dallas Tournament, but LeTourneau (25-13, 25-17, 25-22, 25-15) and Mary Hardin-Baylor (25-8, 25-7, 25-9) beat the Ladies for the second time in as many tries. Centenary wraps up the UT Tyler Tournament Saturday against East Texas Baptist (1 p.m.) and host UT Tyler at 2:30. Brooke Bahlinger led Centenary in the LeTourneau loss with 11 kills, the only one in double figures for the Ladies. Rachel Perkins had eight kills, followed by Sarah Sumner’s seven. Senior Jesi Wilcox posted 10 of the Ladies 28 digs while Perkins collected six. Mary Hardin-Baylor took full advantage of the Ladies youth, taking the first set by a commanding 25-8 margin, and didn’t look back. The Ladies struggled offensively, posting a -.106 hitting mark. Perkins topped the team with three kills, one of three Ladies with multiple kills in the loss. Sumner and Dallas Jagneaux had two apiece. Beth Nuttall and Emily Shelton shared the team-high in assists with five against UMHB after Nuttall posted 18 in the tournament debut. |
