Top-25 foes ahead as Ladies begin SCAC play
GEORGETOWN, Texas – Centenary’s bid for its first volleyball win this year won’t be any easier this weekend as it opens play in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. Two of its three matches are against top-25 squads. Centenary (0-12) takes on the University of Dallas (7-5) Friday at 4:30 p.m. before battling No. 16 Colorado (8-3) and No. 25 Southwestern (8-4) Saturday. Colorado College and Centenary are set to battle at 10 a.m. with the Southwestern following immediately after. The young Ladies squad had opportunities to collect its first win Tuesday at its second tri-match, but unforced errors proved to be the Achilles heel. “We had a very spirited and upbeat week of practice, but when we go play, it’s like we go haywire,” head coach Jon Stenman said. “We have a lot of talent and I know we’re better than what we show. It’s just a matter of channeling that talent, settling down and playing our style of volleyball.” All three of Centenary’s opponents enter the weekend matches playing at a high level. CC took two straight 3-0 wins over Greensboro, winning four of its last five matches. Southwestern has won eight of its last nine after starting the year 0-3. Dallas is riding a four-match winning streak, all 3-0. After opening the year 3-0, Dallas suffered a five-match losing streak before its current trend. |
