Rematch ahead for Ladies
JACKSON, Miss. – Centenary looks to avenge a three-set loss to Belhaven University, taking a break from conference competition for a 7 p.m. contest Tuesday night.
The Ladies are still looking for their first win of the year, sitting at 0-15 and 0-3 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play, while Belhaven is 14-3, 7-1 since the win in the Gold Dome Sept. 11.
Centenary continues SCAC play with two matches Oct. 6, starting with Trinity (8-9, 3-0) at 1 p.m., followed by a match with Austin College (9-8, 0-3). The Ladies wrap up the weekend Sunday against the University of Dallas (10-8, 1-2) at 11 a.m.
Belhaven took the first match in convincing fashion, 25-19, 25-9, 25-11.Centenary’s offense managed 15 kills in the contest, compared to Belhaven’s 44.
Brooke Bahlinger led Centenary with five kills in the loss, followed by Sarah Sumner, Sarah Irons and Rachel Perkins, each with two.
The same four top the Ladies season charts, led by Sumner and Bahlinger with 70 kills apiece. Perkins and Irons have tallied 57 apiece. Perkins, having played in just 36 sets, leads the squad with 1.58 kills per set.
Lone senior Jesi Wilcox leads the Ladies defensively, grabbing 206 of the team’s 636 digs. Bahlinger is the only other Lady in triple digits with 131. Junior setter Beth Nuttall accounts for more than half of the team’s 359 assists with 184.
